NHL DFS Player Correlation Tool – Stack Builders for DraftKings, FanDuel & Betting Strategy

Welcome to the NHL DFS Player Correlation Tool at 5V5 Hockey — built to help you identify which players perform best together based on actual fantasy point correlations.

Whether you're line stacking in DraftKings, FanDuel, or OwnersBox, or building high-upside parlays on Underdog Fantasy, this tool helps you find the most synergistic combinations. These are the duos and trios that score together consistently — and increase your lineup or bet’s potential for big returns.

Each player profile is analyzed for:

  • Top 3 correlated forwards
  • Top 2 correlated defensemen

Correlations are based on DraftKings fantasy points over recent sample sizes and updated regularly to reflect evolving chemistry, deployment, and usage.

Why Correlation Matters in NHL Fantasy & Betting

In hockey, most goals are scored by line combinations or power play units — not individual efforts. That’s why the most successful DFS players and bettors focus on:

  • Stacking players who skate together
  • Correlating picks in parlays
  • Identifying matchups where synergy can be exploited

This tool helps you take it one step further by revealing statistically proven pairings based on actual fantasy point data — not just line charts.

Use this tool in tandem with our Lines Tool and Today’s Games to spot:

  • Strong line matchups
  • High-implied team totals
  • High-implied team totals

How to Use the Player Correlation Table

Each player in the tool is paired with their most tightly correlated teammates based on fantasy scoring:

For each skater:

  • Top 3 Correlated Forwards
  • Top 2 Correlated Defensemen

These correlations are based on game-level DraftKings fantasy points and are calculated using Pearson correlation — a statistical method of measuring how closely two players’ point totals move together.

Understanding Correlation Strength

Here’s how to interpret the correlation values:

Correlation Value Relationship Strength
0.70 and above Strong correlation
0.40 to 0.69 Moderate correlation
0.20 to 0.39 Weak correlation
0.00 to 0.19 Very weak or no correlation
Below 0.00 Negative correlation
  • Strong correlation indicates players frequently score together — ideal for stacking in DFS or pairing in props
  • Moderate correlation still holds value, especially in GPPs where exposure across units is common
  • Negative correlation may be a sign of separate deployment, cannibalized opportunity, or goalie correlation

DFS Strategy: How to Apply This Tool

Line Stacking

Start with a line showing strong matchup potential using our Lines Tool or a team with a high implied total on the Today’s Games slate.

Then:

  • Use this correlation tool to pick two or three skaters who have consistently scored together
  • Prioritize forwards on the same even-strength line or PP unit
  • Add in a correlated defenseman when the data supports it — especially when they play PP1

Parlay Building

Use strong correlation values to build parlays on Underdog Fantasy or other books by:

  • Targeting two forwards with strong correlation and high shot volume
  • Pairing a goal scorer with an assist-heavy defenseman on PP1
  • Building correlated “overs” for props based on real synergy

Season-Long Strategy

Looking to stack in Best Ball or stream a week-ahead matchup?

  • Use correlation to fill gaps when injuries hit or exposure is limited
  • Pick up players who score when your core players score — maximizing your lineup’s volatility in your favor
