Mike Modano became the face of Texas hockey after this franchise relocated from Minnesota in 1993, where it had played as the North Stars since 1967, and he retired as the Stars' all-time leading scorer. A Stanley Cup arrived in 1999 behind captain Derian Hatcher and Conn Smythe winner Joe Nieuwendyk. Dallas has called American Airlines Center home since 2001.
